History and Mother Teresa
Skopje is the capital of North Macedonia and is one and a half hours from Pristina and two hours from Thessaloniki. It is a place rich in history as it has always been a commercial crossroads between East and West. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by several earthquakes, including a very violent one, in 1963. After this disaster, the United Nations entrusted the reconstruction of the city to the famous Japanese architect Kenzō Tange.
Nowadays, Skopje is renowned for its beautiful mosques and Orthodox churches, the fortress, dating from the sixth century, and for being the birthplace of St. Theresa of Calcutta.
